The Hunter’s Heart™ story began with three dogs: Hunter and Benji, our Labradors, and Sissy, our rescued Labrador mix. Each of them brought different lessons into our lives.
Hunter taught us about resilience, recovery, and the importance of continuing to search for better ways to provide comfort. Benji continues to teach us about patience, aging, and appreciating every stage of a dog’s life. Sissy taught us about trust, and about how much time, patience, and a safe home can mean to a frightened dog.
They are more than the inspiration behind our name. Their experiences guide what we create and why we create it.
Hunter’s Journey
A Second Challenge
Hunter was only eleven months old when he underwent his first shoulder surgery for a genetic condition. He recovered with the determination of a young dog who wanted nothing more than to run, play, and carry his favorite green ball.
Years later, the limping returned. Hunter needed another surgery, followed by rehabilitation, underwater therapy, injections, and long periods of recovery. His experience showed us how difficult it can be to find products designed around the real bodies and needs of individual dogs.
That journey inspired our interest in supportive products for mobility, massage, recovery routines, and senior comfort.
Hunter also lives with inflammatory bowel disease. Following extended prednisone treatment, he developed prednisone-associated calcinosis cutis, confirmed through veterinary evaluation and biopsy.
His skin became severely compromised, and caring for him became part of every day. During that experience, we began developing Skin Relief Balm as a gentle topical product to help moisturize and protect his skin as part of his broader care routine.
Hunter has made visible progress, although his skin is still recovering. We use Skin Relief Balm as part of his daily skin care routine. His experience continues to shape the patience, care, and intention behind every Hunter’s Heart™ product. His story is one dog’s experience and does not predict results for another dog.

Meet Benji
Benji is our gentle senior Labrador. He moves a little slower now, takes longer naps, and teaches us every day about patience, aging gracefully, and the changing needs of older dogs.
Watching Benji age inspired our focus on gentle daily routines, comfortable rest, and hands-on care for dogs entering their golden years.

Meet Sissy
Sissy joined our home through rescue. When she arrived, she carried deep fear and uncertainty, reminding us that emotional well-being and a sense of safety are just as essential to a dog’s health as physical care.
Her journey inspired our interest in calming routines, gentle handling, and creating environments where sensitive dogs can feel secure and supported.
